Ryan’s journey began in Michigan, where he helped lauch Virtue Cider. There, he honed his craft and led cider-making operations for a facility producing over 5,000 barrels annually. His mentorship under industry pioneers such as Tom Oliver, Mary Pellettieri, and Greg Hall laid the groundwork for Ryan’s deep expertise in barrel aging, blending, and cider innovation. As a founding member of Feel Goods Company, Ryan also leads a team focused on beverage development, from concept to formulation, to packaging and go-to-market strategies, helping both large international and smaller craft brands disrupt their categories.
Ryan’s role as VP of Innovation & Quality at Blake’s Beverage Co. saw him play a key part in integrating Austin East Cider into the BBC portfolio while also introducing groundbreaking innovations in the RTD, FMB, Cannabis, and Delta 9 beverage spaces. His ability to streamline production processes, optimize supply chains, and drive new category developments was central to the success of the portfolio.
Ryan has also made an indelible mark at Angry Orchard, the largest cider maker in America, where he served as Head Cider Maker and later Sr. Manager of Ideas & Partnerships. He was instrumental in launching the Angry Orchard Rosé, a category-defining product that became the most distributed cider in the industry. His work in cider research, product innovation, and the development of terroir-driven ciders earned global recognition and helped position Angry Orchard as a leader in the craft cider movement. Ryan’s focus on continuous innovation included expanding local farm contracts, improving quality control measures, and serving as a primary spokesperson for the brand.
Throughout his career, Ryan’s achievements have been recognized by his peers and the industry at large. He was named to Wine Enthusiast's 40 Under 40 and Imbibe 75 People to Watch, and received the Buena Cofradía de los Siceratores de Asturias in 2020. His commitment to innovation, industry advocacy, and collaboration also led to his roles as a founding board member and current president of The Cider Institute of North America and a board member of the American Cider Association.
An advocate for the culinary applications of cider, Ryan has worked alongside chefs in kitchens worldwide, from intimate gatherings to high-profile events at The James Beard Foundation. He is also a frequent guest lecturer at the Culinary Institute of America, helping to bridge the gap between cider production and culinary excellence.
